Rituals儀式

Five rituals drawn from our grandmother’s books. The long bath, the charcoal cleanse, the incense walk. Each begins at dusk. Each runs ninety minutes. No two guests share the same evening. 祖母の書から授かった五つの儀式。長湯、炭の浄め、香の歩み。すべて夕暮れに始まり、九十分続きます。同じ夜を分かち合う客はおりません。

Every ritual begins in stillness. すべての儀式は、静けさから始まります。

Warm botanical oils are prepared by hand beside water, stone, and flame, allowing the body to slowly transition away from the outside world and into a quieter state of awareness. 温められた植物のオイルが、水、石、炎のそばで丁寧に整えられます。外の世界から離れ、身体はゆっくりと、静かな気づきの中へと向かいます。

Slow streams of warm water glide across the body. 温かな水が、身体の上をゆるやかに流れます。

Rhythmic ceremonial movements inspired by traditional Japanese bathing culture. Heat, humidity, touch, and silence work together to dissolve physical tension and quiet mental noise. 古くからの湯治の作法に倣った、静かなしぐさ。熱、湿り、手のひら、そして静寂が、身体の緊張をほどき、心の喧噪を鎮めます。

The ritual concludes in silence. 儀式は静けさの中で終わります。

Guests remain within the sanctuary to rest, breathe, and absorb the lingering calm, allowing the nervous system to fully settle before returning to the world beyond the walls. 客はそのまま静寂の場に残り、休み、息をし、残る静けさを身に受けます。外の世界へ戻る前に、心と身体が深く落ち着くのを待ちます。

II · SpacesII ・場

The Sanctuary静寂の場

Six rooms, two onsen, one courtyard of Kumano stone. Built by Sakai Yū in 1962, restored by his granddaughter in 2019. Hinoki cedar throughout; the spring rises at forty‑two degrees. 六つの室、二つの温泉、熊野石の中庭。一九六二年、坂井優によって建てられ、二〇一九年、孫娘の手で甦りました。建物の隅々まで檜が香り、源泉は四十二度に湧きます。

The sanctuary begins with transition. 静寂は、移ろいから始まります。

Stone, water, shadow, and silence gradually separate guests from the rhythm of the outside world, preparing the body and mind for stillness. 石、水、影、静けさ。それらが少しずつ、外の世界のうねりから客を遠ざけ、心と身体を静けさへと整えます。

At the heart of the sanctuary, water and architecture exist in quiet balance. 静寂の場の中心では、水と建築が静かに釣り合っています。

Warm light, humid air, and natural textures create an atmosphere designed to slow breathing, soften awareness, and restore calm through sensory immersion. やわらかな光、湿った空気、自然の素材。呼吸はゆるみ、感覚はやさしくほどけ、五感に包まれて静けさが戻ってきます。

Each retreat space is intentionally minimal, allowing silence, warmth, and texture to become the experience itself. 室はあえて簡素に整えられ、静けさ、ぬくもり、素材そのものが体験となります。

Nothing distracts the senses. Everything exists to support deep rest, privacy, and emotional release. 五感を乱すものは、何もありません。すべてが、深い休らぎと、ひとりの時間と、心の解き放ちのためにあります。

III · The WhyIII ・理

Philosophy哲学

Yūnagi. The windless hour at dusk, when the sea breeze and the land breeze pause. We open the gate at half‑past four and close it at seven. The rest belongs to whoever stays. 夕凪。海風と陸風が止む、夕暮れの静かなひととき。門は四時半に開き、七時に閉じます。あとの時間は、ここに居る者のもの。

We believe restoration begins when the nervous system is allowed to slow naturally. 回復は、神経が自然にゆるむときに始まる。私たちはそう信じています。

Warm water, soft light, and silence create the conditions for the body to release tension without force or distraction. 温かな水、やわらかな光、そして静けさ。身体が自然と緊張を手放せるような場を整えます。

Every element inside the sanctuary is designed to influence emotion through sensation rather than stimulation. 静寂の場のすべての要素は、刺激ではなく感覚を通して心に届くよう整えられています。

Light becomes softer.
Sound becomes quieter.
Breathing becomes slower. 光がやわらぐ。
音が静まる。
息がゆるむ。

Each season, the sanctuary releases a private letter inspired by atmosphere, ritual, weather, and stillness. 季ごとに、私たちは小さな便りをしたためます。空気、儀式、天気、そして静けさにふれて。

Written slowly and intentionally, these reflections preserve the emotional rhythm of the sanctuary beyond the physical visit. ゆっくりと、丁寧に綴られたその記録は、訪れの後にも、静寂の場の余韻をとどめます。

The Ritual Stone儀の石

The ritual stone sits at the centre of the inner court, warmed each evening by candle. Bookings are by letter only. Tell us who you are, why you wish to come, and which week. We answer within seven days. 儀の石は中庭の中心にあり、夜毎、蝋燭の灯で温められます。お申し込みはお手紙のみ。お名前、訪れたい理由、ご希望の週をお書きください。七日以内にお返事いたします。
